Traffic & Parking Guidelines Issued for Kainchi Dham Highway
Official Highway Protocols & Parking Guide for Kainchi Dham Visitors
To address growing pilgrimage traffic along the Bhowali-Almora National Highway (NH-109) and ensure safety for all devotees, the Nainital District Administration and Uttarakhand Traffic Police have issued comprehensive traffic and parking protocols for the 2026 pilgrimage season.
Designated Multi-Tier Parking Zones
Due to the narrow mountain gorge along the Shipra River, parking directly along the highway roadside within 500 meters of the Kainchi Dham main entrance is strictly prohibited. Violations incur immediate digital challans and vehicle towing.
- Zone A (Bhowali Sanatorium Ground): Capacity for 400+ four-wheelers. Electric shuttle cabs and shared local taxis operate continuously between this ground and the ashram gate (distance: 8 km, approx. 15 minutes).
- Zone B (Niglat Multi-Level Parking Ground): Located just 1.5 km before the ashram on the Bhowali side. Accommodates 180 vehicles and offers direct pedestrian walkway access.
- Zone C (Almora-Side Kainchi Bypass Grounds): Dedicated for traffic arriving from Ranikhet, Almora, and Mukteshwar.
Weekend Shuttle Taxi Rates & Service
Special green-plated shuttle electric vans and registered local taxis operate from Bhowali Taxi Stand directly to the Kainchi footbridge. The authorized one-way fare is fixed at ₹30–₹40 per passenger on a shared basis, or ₹300 for a full private cab booking.
Weekend One-Way Diversion System
On high-congestion weekends (Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays):
- Heavy commercial trucks and non-essential transport are restricted from the Bhowali-Kainchi corridor between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
- Traffic bound from Haldwani to Almora may be diverted via the Bhimtal-Padampuri-Sheherphatak route to keep NH-109 smooth for pilgrims.
- Devotees with pre-booked homestays along the Kainchi-Niglat stretch should keep their homestay confirmation message accessible on their phone to show traffic police at Bhowali barrier.
Best Travel Advice for Devotees
If visiting on a weekend, plan to cross Bhowali before 7:00 AM to secure hassle-free parking and reach the ashram in time for the morning Kakad Aarti. Alternatively, book your stay at a verified walking-distance homestay in Kainchi village to avoid highway traffic altogether.
Road conditions in mountainous regions can change rapidly during heavy weather or high festival congestion. Always verify with local traffic police or connect with our support desk before driving.
