History & Divine Foundation

In 1962, while traversing the wooded hills between Bhowali and Almora, Maharaj Ji along with close devotees Purnanand Ji of the Forest Department and local villagers rested by the culvert. Maharaj Ji pointed to the two crossing hills—resembling a pair of scissors (in Hindi, Kainchi)—and envisioned a sacred haven of Lord Hanuman and peace for seekers.

The first Hanuman temple was formally consecrated on June 15, 1964. Over the years, shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Vaishno Devi, and the tranquil private sanctum of Maharaj Ji were added. Today, the ashram radiates an aura of transcendental silence, where people from all walks of life meditate and chant.
