Physically Shivering While Saving Devotees on a Sinking Ganga Boat
गंगा में डूबती नाव की रक्षा — साक्षात जल में भीगने की लीला
How Baba’s body became drenched in river water while sitting inside a dry temple room
One summer afternoon at Dada Mukerjee’s home in Allahabad, Maharaj Ji was conversing cheerfully with family members on his wooden cot. Suddenly, he fell completely silent. His posture stiffened, his breathing became shallow, and his gaze fixed into the distant ether.
Within minutes, the family members noticed that Maharaj Ji’s body began trembling violently. Water began dripping from his fingertips, his dhoti, and the edges of his woollen blanket. A puddle of muddy river water began forming on the floor underneath his cot, accompanied by the distinct fresh scent of the Ganga river.
Terrified, Dada and Didi brought dry towels, wondering if someone had spilled water or if Baba was physically ill. Baba waved them away weakly and whispered in gasps: "Hold on! Hold on tight! Don’t let go!"
After nearly forty minutes of intense struggle, Baba exhaled deeply, relaxed his limbs, and smiled with exhaustion. He wrung the river water out of his blanket and said: "Phew! Mother Ganga was very turbulent today. But everyone is safe now."
Later that evening, a group of frantic devotees arrived at the house, soaked to the bone and trembling. They reported that their ferry boat had crossed the Sangam during a sudden fierce squall. The boat had hit a whirlpool, cracked its wooden hull, and began sinking fast in deep water.
As passengers screamed in panic, several devotees closed their eyes and cried out: "Maharaj Ji, save us!" They witnessed a giant, glowing invisible form appear beneath the hull, lifting the sinking boat against the raging currents and dragging it steadily toward the sandy riverbank. When they checked the exact time of their deliverance, it matched to the minute when Baba was dripping wet in Dada’s living room.
"Never despair. When you take one step toward God, God runs ten steps toward you."
