Massive Infrastructure Overhaul for Kainchi Dham: ₹40 Crore Masterplan
Nainital, Uttarakhand — In a major development aimed at transforming pilgrim infrastructure and tackling chronic traffic gridlocks, the Uttarakhand Government has sanctioned a comprehensive development package of approximately ₹40 crore for the historic Kainchi Dham Neem Karoli Baba Ashram area.
The announcement comes amidst an unprecedented surge in devotee arrivals from across India and around the globe following the global spiritual prominence of Kainchi Dham.

Speaking on the comprehensive infrastructure upgrade, Ratnesh Saxena, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD), stated:
"The number of tourists visiting Kainchi Dham is increasing exponentially day by day. Considering this, the government allocated a budget of around ₹40 crore for the development of the area..."
The funds will be deployed systematically across key civil projects, primarily focusing on vehicle decongestion, pedestrian safety, and comprehensive beautification of the temple vicinity along the Shipra River valley.
Multilevel Parking Facility for 500+ Vehicles
One of the biggest pain points for devotees visiting Kainchi Dham has been severe road congestion along the Bhowali–Almora National Highway (NH-109), especially during weekends, festive occasions, and the annual June 15 Pratishtha Divas Bhandara.
To provide a permanent solution to this issue:
- A state-of-the-art multilevel automated/semi-automated parking complex is being constructed with capacity for over 500 vehicles (cars and light motor vehicles).
- Dedicated bays for two-wheelers and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
- Dedicated shuttle pickup zones and pedestrian-safe footpaths directly linking the parking zones to the main temple entrance.
- Advanced digital display boards along the approach road indicating real-time parking slot availability to prevent bottlenecks.
Key Upgrades Included in the ₹40 Crore Package
Beyond parking, the master development plan focuses on sustainable pilgrim amenities:
- Riverfront Beautification & Landscaping: Ecological strengthening of the Shipra river banks near the ashram, stone pitching, tree plantation, and LED ambient illumination.
- Covered Waiting Corridors & Queuing Areas: Weather-protected queuing sheds equipped with fans and heating provisions to shelter devotees from torrential monsoon rains and winter chills.
- Upgraded Sanitation & Clean Drinking Water: Modern hygiene blocks, baby-care rooms, clean public washrooms, and RO drinking water kiosks stationed along the pilgrim path.
- Pedestrian Skywalk & Footpaths: Separation of pedestrian pilgrims from vehicular highway traffic through dedicated footpaths and safety barricades.
- Road Widening & Slope Stabilization: Reinforcement of vulnerable hillside patches prone to landslips along NH-109, along with curve-straightening to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Practical Travel Tips for Devotees During Ongoing Works
- Shuttle Taxis Available: While parking construction proceeds, visitors are encouraged to utilize designated parking in Bhowali and take local shuttle taxis to Kainchi Dham (approx. 8 km).
- Plan Early Darshan: Morning aarti (6:00 AM – 7:30 AM) and late afternoons remain the most peaceful slots for darshan.
- Strict Plastic-Free Zone: Devotees are kindly reminded to maintain the sanctity of Devbhoomi by avoiding single-use plastics and following temple decorum.

हाल के वर्षों में देश-विदेश से आने वाले बाबा जी के भक्तों की संख्या में अप्रत्याशित वृद्धि हुई है। इसी को ध्यान में रखते हुए इस महायोजना को धरातल पर उतारा जा रहा है।

परियोजना के संबंध में जानकारी देते हुए लोक निर्माण विभाग (PWD) के अधिशासी अभियंता रत्नेश सक्सेना ने कहा:
"कैंची धाम में आने वाले पर्यटकों और श्रद्धालुओं की संख्या दिन-प्रतिदिन तेजी से (एक्सपोनेंशियल) बढ़ रही है। इसे ध्यान में रखते हुए, सरकार ने क्षेत्र के समग्र विकास के लिए लगभग ₹40 करोड़ का बजट आवंटित किया है..."
उन्होंने बताया कि इस धनराशि का उपयोग मुख्य रूप से मल्टीलेवल पार्किंग के निर्माण, तीर्थयात्री सुविधाओं के उच्चीकरण और धाम क्षेत्र के सौंदर्यीकरण में किया जाएगा।
500 से अधिक वाहनों के लिए आधुनिक मल्टीलेवल पार्किंग
कैंची धाम आने वाले श्रद्धालुओं के लिए सबसे बड़ी चुनौती भवाली-अल्मोड़ा राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग (NH-109) पर लगने वाला घंटों का भीषण ट्रैफिक जाम रहा है। अब इस समस्या का स्थायी समाधान होने जा रहा है:
- कैंची धाम के समीप 500 से अधिक चार पहिया वाहनों की क्षमता वाली अत्याधुनिक मल्टीलेवल पार्किंग का निर्माण तेजी से किया जा रहा है।
- दोपहिया वाहनों के लिए अलग से पार्किंग स्थल और ई-वाहन (EV) चार्जिंग की सुविधा उपलब्ध होगी।
- पार्किंग स्थल से मंदिर तक श्रद्धालुओं को लाने-ले जाने के लिए सुगम शटल और सुरक्षित पैदल कॉरिडोर बनाए जा रहे हैं।
- हाईवे पर डिजिटल डिस्प्ले बोर्ड लगाए जाएंगे, जिससे चालकों को पहले ही पार्किंग में खाली स्थानों की सटीक जानकारी मिल सकेगी।
₹40 करोड़ की विकास योजना में शामिल प्रमुख कार्य
- शिप्रा नदी तट एवं धाम का सौंदर्यीकरण: आश्रम के समीप बहने वाली शिप्रा नदी के किनारों का सुदृढ़ीकरण, हरियाली, आकर्षक पाथवे और प्रकाश व्यवस्था।
- कतार प्रबंधन व ढके हुए प्रतीक्षालय: बारिश और कड़ाके की ठंड से श्रद्धालुओं को बचाने के लिए मौसम-अनुकूल शेड्स और कतारबद्ध दर्शन गलियारे।
- पेयजल व आधुनिक शौचालय: पूरे परिक्षेत्र में स्वच्छ आरओ (RO) पेयजल बूथ, आधुनिक सार्वजनिक शौचालय और स्वच्छता केंद्र।
- पैदल पथ (फुटपाथ) और सुरक्षा रेलिंग: हाईवे पर पैदल चलने वाले श्रद्धालुओं की सुरक्षा के लिए वाहनों के मार्ग से अलग फुटपाथ और सुरक्षा बैरियर।
- सड़क चौड़ीकरण और पहाड़ी सुरक्षा कार्य: भूस्खलन संभावित क्षेत्रों में सुरक्षा दीवारें (क्रैश बैरियर/गेबियन वॉल) और संकरे मोड़ों को चौड़ा करना।
श्रद्धालुओं के लिए जरूरी सलाह
- भवाली शटल सेवा का उपयोग करें: जब तक पार्किंग का निर्माण पूरा नहीं हो जाता, तब तक वीकेंड पर अपनी गाड़ी भवाली में पार्क कर स्थानीय शटल टैक्सी से मंदिर पहुंचें।
- दर्शन का उत्तम समय: सुबह की आरती (प्रातः 6:00 बजे से 7:30 बजे) या दोपहर बाद का समय शांतिपूर्ण दर्शन के लिए सबसे अनुकूल है।
- देवभूमि की मर्यादा का पालन करें: धाम और पहाड़ी पर्यावरण को स्वच्छ रखें तथा प्लास्टिक कचरा न फैलाएं।
